Plaza de Bolívar

Plaza de Bolivar (Carrera 7 #11-10, Bogota) – located in the heart of the Colombia capital, this square has a statue of Simón Bolivar (the Venezuelan who liberated his country, as well as Colombia, Panama & Ecuador from Spanish colonial rule). The Palace of Justice is located north of this square (which earned its place in contemporary Colombian history when it was attacked by M-19 guerrillas in 1985 (a siege which was put down by the country’s military). Located south of this square is the country’s Parliament, while the Mayor’s office is found just west of it. The Cathedral of Bogotá can be found east of the square.
